Karla's 10 reasons why online shopping beats shopping in-store

Having seen the frenzied scenes in stores with shoppers even fighting in branches of Walmart  Cyber Browsing seems a far more preferable prospect: No queues, no punch-ups and all done in front of the telly with a cup of tea.

Here’s ten reasons why I think online shopping beats the real thing any day of the week.

1. You won’t get jostled in the crowds
We'd all like to avoid this, wouldn't we?
We ventured out into The Mall this weekend for a spot of early Christmas shopping and the scenes that greeted us were something akin to how we imagine Armageddon would go down – people everywhere; the pavements, the roads, roofs of buildings (okay maybe not on the roofs). Compare that to sitting in the calm of your own living room gently tapping on a keyboard and there’s really no contest.

2. No queues
Number one!
No one should be this excited to be in a queue. You can either spend 45 soul-destroying minutes of your life standing in line in-store while a bored sales assistant has a chat with her mate and ignores the hard stares and loud sighs emanating from the line of people in front of them (obviously, we would never resort to anything more aggressive than mild tutting), or you can go from shopping basket to checkout in under a minute – you decide.

3. More stock
How many times have we decided to go into a shop to get something rather than buy it online (so we can have it immediately/make sure we actually want it), only to be told by the helpful sales assistant that they don’t have it in stock but did we know it’s available on the website? (And breath..)
4. You don’t have to worry about parking
When the only space left may result in a hefty fine searching for a parking spot at Christmas is like trying to find someone without a fake tan in Essex; it ain’t going to happen.

5. You can do it anytime, anywhere
With real-life shopping (as we like to think of it), you’re confined to the hours of 9am to 9pm (with extended Christmas opening hours), but with online shopping, you can do it anytime – while watching Homeland, while at work, at 3am in the morning in your pajamas when you realize you've forgotten something for Auntie Betty (no, just us?)

6. There are loads more shops
You’ll never need to step foot on the high street again
In the virtual world, there are loads more shops to trawl through and, even better, you don’t have to exhaust yourself in the process.

7. You don’t have to lug loads of shopping bags around
When we go Christmas shopping, we tend to end the day looking a little like Geoff Capes. Please note, this is not because we resemble Geoff Capes normally; it’s because we’re emulating his World’s Strongest Man feats with all the shopping bags we’re trying to carry home on public transport – like that time we thought it was a good idea to buy a bread machine on Oxford Street.

8. The packaging’s better too
Instead of just having something slung into a bag by an overworked, dead-behind-the-eyes sales assistant dressed as an elf, you get beautiful boxes and everything wrapped in tissue paper.

9. You can try on in the comfort of your own home
Instead of facing the three mirrors of hell in some sweaty, shoe box of a changing room, you can try clothes on in the comfort of your own bedroom. Yes, you run the risk of having to manage sometimes challenging returns processes but we think that’s preferable to removing twenty layers of clothing every time you want to try on a new party dress.

10. It’s like you’re not really spending money
You’re not physically handing any money over, so it kind of doesn't count, right?
Okay, I do advise against looking at it like this, but the truth is that when you’re spending online, it doesn't feel like you’re spending real money. Especially when you go through that  quick checkout. Of course, that can get you into a heap of trouble come January.
